This volunteer-run museum aims to preserve and present artifacts and exhibits that represent the rich maritime history of Annapolis. Although damaged by Hurricane Isabel, the museum has been rebuilt and re-dedicated, and is once again open to the public. Among the highlights of the museum are the Barge House, an unusual structure built from the remains of bay barges; and the Thomas Point Lighthouse Experience.

Annapolis Tourist Museums: Banneker Douglas Museum - 84 Franklin Street, Annapolis, Maryland (MD), USA

The Banneker Douglas Museum is dedicated to the rich history of African Americans in Annapolis. Named after famous black intellectuals, Benjamin Banneker and Frederick Douglas, it is the official repository of African American material culture in Maryland. This museum houses a number of interesting exhibits including artifacts, photographs, art, documents and rare books, all of which relate to black life in Maryland. The building itself was the first black church established in Annapolis and dates back to the 18th century.
